Episode 20: MAD Magazine with Rich Sommer!!!



It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad episode of Flip the Table as Rich Sommer from TV's Mad Men joins us to review MAD Magazine: The Board Game! This 1979 classic combines the subversive wit and satire of the iconic magazine with all the thrill and excitement of an old roll & move board game. Players travel counterclockwise around the board as they do everything they can to lose all the money they have in a chair-swapping, impression-of-a-rock doing, deliberately-vague-rules-interpreting slugfest. Many of us had this one as a kid...but does it hold up almost 35 years later? Also: We find out how someone with an actual IMDB listing fares in our first ever Celebrity Battle of Wits!

NEXT WEEK: Rich Sommer Joins Flip the Table!


Flip the Table has something AWESOME in store for next week! Our special guest will be the amazingly talented Rich Sommer!

You know Rich as Harry Crane from the smash hit Mad Men...he's also a die hard board gamer, and was the guest of honor at the 2012 BGG.CON. He's reached out to spread the word about our hobby to the wider world through the awesome Game Night with Rich Sommer and his gaming blog, and is also incredibly intimidating in a luchadore mask.

Rich will join us in reviewing the MAD Magazine Board Game (see what we did, there?) on next week's show! He was an amazing guest, and we're definitely looking forward to bringing you this episode. We're so excited, in fact, that we'll be dropping the show a couple of days early...just in time for those with a long drive to this year's SnowCon! Look for it the evening of Thursday, January 17th.

Episode 16: Murder, She Wrote



This Week: We present Team Coverage of "Murder, She Wrote," the board game alongside the Game Night Guys! Two reviews, two shows, one game! On this episode of Flip the Table, we stop banging away at our typewriters long enough to bring you Murder, She Wrote: The board game! It's a deduction game with a traitor element released 25 years ahead of its time. Like Battlestar Galactica, there are many copies of Jessica Fletcher (played by the immortal Angela Lansbury) chasing down a twisted murderer  as they try to exterminate an entire island resort. Is this game worthy of being played after, say, "60 Minutes: The Board Game"? Plus: A Battle of Wits with an ending you won't believe!

Chiefly, a player may make an accusation if they land on or pass over the "Accuse" space, and need not land there by exact count. Players also must keep the "Alive" or "Dead" status of a character a secret after examining a space. We appreciate the information!
